The inspiration for this piece came from the beautiful color tattoo of bamboo that the model has inscribed on her body. The Chinese character tattooed on her back signifies dance ‘Beautiful movements out of the mysterious void'.
I placed bamboo from my garden directly on the scanner. I used effects on the bamboo selection to render a kind of bamboo calligraphy. I envisioned the collage as a double page spread from ‘The Book of Bamboo', an illuminated manuscript. I imagined magical writing spontaneously appearing in the center of the page, revealing intimate secrets from the Bamboo Dakini. ‘The Book of Bamboo' is her Book of Life.
