One of the 64 Dakinis, Magmaa is the embodiment of the molten energy of the earth. I took photographs on the big island of Hawaii when the lava was flowing and used these as the basis of this piece. To truly to experience the earth in it's different textures as it is freshly formed is one of the wonders of the world. To see the blood of Mother Earth flowing is an unforgettable experience. This Dakini is guardian of this aspect of creation. Within her body I montaged a mirrored pattern from textures of the earth to form her backbone. Her hair is made from cooled lava. She is both terrifying and comforting in her rooted stability as vortexes unfold around her. The model is myself at age twenty eight when I was painted as the red Dakiini.
