An example of a Living Thanka, White Tara is one of the 64 Dakinis. . I took parts of various thanka paintings and composited them with photographs of water, lotuses and sunset sky. We used white body make up so the model appeared 'white as an autumn moon' and eyes were painted on her hands, feet and at her third eye. Ornaments from statues and paintings were combined with the ones she wore for the shoot. We did the shoot as an evocation/invocation to White Tara.
White Tara is the embodiment of compassion and bestows boons of health, longevity, protection, good fortune and peace. Welcome to Tara's luminous Pure Land.
