1971 'Private - No Admittance', 3-D assemblage with Plexiglass, resin, fiberglass, life cast, satin and veil. Exhibited at 'Young and Fantastic' ICA, London 1969, solo exhibit, Angela Flowers Gallery, 1971. I started these 'Personal Boxes' while at Chelsea Art College, and the theme remained through the next couple of years. Working with my own face as the starting point, either life cast or as photographic images rendered on clear acetates, I assembled different elements in relation to them to create various 'private views'. Incorporating black humor, visual puns and surreal juxtaposition, I found these magic boxes to be a perfect devise for reflecting on self, the image and the artist, the viewer and the viewed.
